TAKE-AWAY (Button project) by Megan Lotts

Stop by the Rutgers University Art Library from January 16 to February 1, 2018 to view the buttons, while they last. Please choose one button to take away for yourself, or to give to a friend or loved one.

On Tuesday January 23, from 2:30pm-4pm the Art Library will host a button making event as part of this project.  Please stop by to make your own unique buttons.

In October 2016, the Rutgers University Libraries purchased a button maker to explore the possibilities of outreach and engagement under the guise of pop-up makerspaces.  After being mesmerized by the creativity of Rutgers University Libraries patrons when making buttons, in October 2017 Art Librarian, Megan Lotts, purchased her own button maker and began working on this exhibit.

This exhibit consists of 511 unique one of a kind buttons.  These small collages are made of a variety of materials including paint chips, patterned papers, jewelry making supplies, stickers, beads, love, and more.

As an artist Lotts is interested in pattern, color, and composition. These buttons are not meant to last the test of time. They are quick snap shots, or moments that are catalysts for thought, discussion, or simply a 2.25-inch circle of art to give to a friend or wear on one’s backpack, jacket, or shirt.
