Thinking of you…a project- by Megan Lotts
Morris Library Rotunda Art Space
March 1st– March 7th 2-4pm everyday
Thinking of you… is an interactive art experience that works with the ideas of recycled materials, hand- made cards, and the US postal system. During March 1st and March 8th I will appear daily for 2 hours at a time in the Morris Library Rotunda Art Space with my “mobile studio” including supplies to make one of a kind hand-made cards. While I make cards on the spot, viewers will have the opportunity to look at previously made cards and choose one to send to any person of their choice. After choosing a card the viewer will write a note, address the card, seal the card, and then place the card into the Artist made mailbox.
At the end of the exhibit the artist will add stamps to the cards and mail them at the main branch of the Carbondale, Illinois Post Office. Each card will include the artist signature, and website that the receiver of the card may log into to see other cards that were made and to find out more information about the project.
My intent with this project is to highlight the significance of “one of a kind” hand-made objects, the importance of communication, and how the US postal system plays a role in our everyday lives.
